As the Handyperson at Orchard Gardens, you’ll be the go‑to problem solver who keeps the home safe, comfortable, and running smoothly. Your work directly supports the wellbeing of residents by ensuring their environment is well‑maintained, welcoming, and hazard‑free. Every day brings something different, and your practical skills will make a meaningful difference
Responsibilities:
- Carry out day‑to‑day repairs, maintenance tasks, and basic DIY across the home.
- Conduct regular checks on equipment, fixtures, and fittings to ensure safety and compliance.
- Support with planned maintenance schedules, including painting, minor plumbing, and basic electrical tasks (within competency).
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and residents.
- Maintain outdoor areas such as pathways, gardens, and seating areas to a safe and tidy standard.
- Work with external contractors when specialist repairs are required.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety regulations and the care home’s policies.
- Assist with moving furniture, setting up rooms, and general upkeep of communal spaces.
What We’re Looking For:
- Practical experience in maintenance
- A good understanding of basic plumbing, joinery, decorating, and minor electrical work.
- Someone organised, proactive, and able to prioritise tasks independently.
- A friendly, approachable personality, comfortable interacting with residents, families, and staff.
- A commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.
- Awareness of health and safety standards
