8 am - 3pm, working alternate weekends

The Head Housekeeper plays a central role in creating a safe, dignified, and homely environment for residents living with dementia. This position leads the housekeeping team to maintain exceptionally high standards of cleanliness, infection control, and presentation throughout the home, ensuring residents feel comfortable, respected, and supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the housekeeping team, ensuring high standards across the home.
  • Organise staff rotas, manage workloads, and provide training, including dementia‑aware practice.
  • Oversee all cleaning, laundry, and housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe, homely environment.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, COSHH, and health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor stock levels and manage ordering of cleaning materials and PPE.
  • Build positive relationships with residents and families, respecting individual preferences.
  • Carry out regular audits and report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with care, maintenance, and management teams to support smooth operations.

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience in housekeeping leadership, ideally within a care home or healthcare setting.
  • Strong understanding of dementia and how the environment affects resident wellbeing.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Knowledge of infection control, COSHH, and health and safety standards.
  • Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to residents and families.
