Help Shape the Future of Governance at Anchor

Opportunity for an experienced governance professional who wants to play a visible, influential role at the heart of a large and complex organisation. Someone who is as comfortable building trusted relationships in the boardroom as they are providing expert governance advice and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Anchor is undertaking a programme of change which includes evolution of our governance framework and culture. There will be opportunities to support Board recruitment, induction and development activities as well as managing company secretarial support to a variety of committees and operational meetings. We’re looking for a Deputy Company Secretary who can help drive our change agenda forward as well as maintaining good service standards and robust governance and compliance foundations.

Working alongside the Group Company Secretary, you'll be a trusted adviser to senior leaders and Board Members, helping shape governance across the organisation and deputising when required.

This is an opportunity to use your knowledge and experience of governance best practice to contribute to meaningful change, as well as build a reputation as a governance professional who adds real value.

The Opportunity

As Deputy Company Secretary, you'll provide expert governance support across Anchor and play a key role in ensuring our governance framework remains effective, proportionate and aligned to organisational priorities.

You'll work closely with the Board, Committees and Executive Team, providing practical advice and supporting effective decision-making. Whether leading a governance discussion in Board meetings, advising senior stakeholders or managing complex governance matters, you'll bring the confidence, judgement and credibility needed to operate at this level.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide expert governance advice that supports effective decision-making and robust oversight.
  • Drive governance and compliance improvements across the organisation.
  • Be a trusted advisor to and build strong relationships with Board Members, senior leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Deputise for the Group Company Secretary when required.
  • Ensure governance, regulatory and statutory obligations are met across the Group.
  • Line manage the Company Secretarial Assistant.

About You

You'll be an experienced governance professional who combines technical expertise with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence at senior levels. You'll bring:

  • Significant company secretarial or corporate governance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of UK company law, community benefit society law and governance best practice.
  • Knowledge of regulation in the housing and/or care sectors.
  • Experience supporting Boards, Committees and senior leaders.
  • The confidence and credibility to build relationships of trust with Board members and colleagues.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The judgement, professionalism and resilience to deputise for the Group Company Secretary.
  • Associate or Fellow membership of the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland (CGIUKI), or working towards accreditation. Equivalent qualifications will be considered.

Why Join Anchor?

This is a rare opportunity to step into a role that offers genuine strategic influence, significant exposure to senior leadership and the chance to help shape the future of governance in one of the country's largest housing and care organisations for older people.

You'll join us at a pivotal point in our journey, working alongside experienced leaders and Board Members to deliver meaningful governance improvements that support the organisation's long-term success.

If you're looking for a role where you can make an impact and develop your leadership profile, we'd love to hear from you.
