About the role
As the Category Assistant you will support the Category Managers within the procurement function including the development and delivery of the Property category sourcing programme.
This will include working closely with other members of the procurement team, suppliers and internal stakeholders within the category area. You will be accountable for contributing to the delivery of cost savings and value for money procurement solutions to the organisation and providing expert procurement guidance to a range of internal stakeholders.
The Category Assistant will support the team in ensuring compliance with the business governance and policy requirements is followed and a risk-based approach is applied to deliver maximum commercial value to delivery outcomes.
This is also seen as a developmental role for an individual wishing to start or further their career in procurement. The longer-term objective for the role is to progress in scope and responsibility with a view for the Category Assistant to be responsible for a specific range of procurement projects and / or spend areas with support and guidance from the Category Managers.
Ideally You will have some previous procurement experience or worked in a project orientated environment in which you have dealt with a variety of internal customers and / or suppliers.
You will have a good analytical background and be comfortable with reviewing and analysing both written and numerical information from a variety of sources.
You will have good project and workload management skills such as the ability to prioritise and good time management of your own work, with the ability to work both autonomously but also with others in a project team environment. You will ideally have experience of leading or supporting the development of innovative solutions contributing to a strategic plan as well as managing and reporting progress and spend/savings.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with a keen eye for accuracy and detail, with the ability to articulate sensitive and technical information to internal and external audiences at all levels of the organisation.
You will be expected to support the Category Managers in planning, organising and coordination of procurement project activities, working towards managing your own projects in the longer-term.
Experience of procurement, buying, sourcing, purchasing or supply chain management is advantageous but not essential to be considered for the role.
